Carmel, Indiana is a rapidly growing affluent city to the North of Indianapolis in Hamilton County.
Carmel has begun construction of the Carmel City Center project near Carmel's Arts and Design District. It will feature 230,000 square feet of retail space and restaurants, 170,000 square feet of office space, 300 penthouses and apartments, a 102-room boutique hotel, a 500-seat performing arts theater, an outdoor amphitheater, and a 1,600-seat performance hall.
The Carmel Arts & Design District has attracted well over 100 businesses including art galleries, antique dealers, furniture and interior design showrooms, restaurants, boutiques, creative service providers, and an eclectic variety of specialty retail stores. And the list of merchants continues to grow.
The Monon Trail in Carmel connects to the Monon Trail in Indianapolis, and will eventually connect with Westfield's and Sheridan's trails. The popular 146th Street sidepath is also connected at the north end of the trail and runs east/west between Spring Mill Road and SR37 in Noblesville. The Clay Terrace outdoor mall is located about 1/4 mile east of the Monon along 146th Street. Numerous additional trail connections are found along the length of the trail, including 116th Street, 106th Street, and along I-465. In addition to the Monon Trail, a popular area for runners, walkers, and cyclists, the city of Carmel boasts the Monon Center, a new water park and fitness center located in Carmel's Central Park opened in 2007. The Outdoor Aqua Park has two water slides, a drop slide, a diving board, a lazy river, and a kiddie pool. The fitness center consists of an indoor lap pool, a recreation pool with its own set of water slides, gymnasium, 1/8 mile indoor running track, and the Kids Zone childcare. The Monon Center is also available for weddings and events.
Within walking distance of the Monon is the Clay Terrace Outdoor Living Center, a shopping area that combines nationally known retailers with local boutiques in an outdoor shopping setting.
Carmel is also known for its' highly ranked school system. There are 11 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and one high school. Carmel is one of the largest schools in the state based on enrollment numbers.
Carmel is still very close to all that Indianapolis has to offer with the benefits of living in a smaller city!
